MANIFESTO
I encourage people to resist the imposition of T****’s dictatorial, strongman regime on the body of our American democracy. I acknowledge that resistance through both word and deed can involve elements of serious risk.
Our founding Fathers understood this truth at an elemental level. In concluding their Declaration of Independence they proclaim, “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
It is true, risk is a perilous adjunct to the maintenance of freedom. However, it cannot be avoided. In words often attributed to Thomas Jefferson, “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” And the time for that vigilance is now.
It is now our turn to accept the consequences of this truth, to maintain our vigilance, and to accept those risks, as did our Founding Fathers. For indeed, they held another abiding truth to be equally self evident, and so must we:
It is better to live with one leg than spend your life on your knees.
