THE BERNHARD PERSPECTIVE
Here is a quick historical retrospective:
When slavery was legal, helping slaves to freedom was criminalized. When the Holocaust was legal, hiding Jews was criminalized. When Jim Crow was legal, protesting racism was criminalized.
The point? Legality doesn’t necessarily equal morality.
The contemporary application: The criminalization of how people live their private lives may be legal, but it isn’t moral.
The imperative: Oppose MAGA’s agenda surrounding women’s rights, racial and LBGTQ+ issues. They’re trying to force everyone to live with their petty, hateful prejudices. No-one has that right.
I’ll take moral over legal any day.
