(Huffington Post, May 9) “Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has ‘good news’ to share with you: As a result of her oversight at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 4.5 million people have been kicked off food stamps in the past year. Rollins bragged about the move in an appearance on Newsmax Thursday night.
‘The good news: In just one year alone, we’ve already moved 4.5 million people off of SNAP,’ Rollins said, referring to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, as she predicted more hunger to follow.
‘We’re going to be pulling more and more people off,’ she added.
Rollins then struck a religious tone, ignoring how many people on public assistance do work, but still have trouble making ends meet.
‘Frankly part of this is the dignity of work, right?’ she said. ‘This is a great, American, biblical, foundational principle that people should work unless they’re very old or disabled or a child.’
Rollins is no stranger to dubious assertions, having once claimed that food prices have fallen when they were actually rising, and that a meal consisting of ‘a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, a corn tortilla and one other thing costs only $3.00.’
And that’s it. SNAP benefits go to low-income households. USDA sources report that roughly 40 percent, or 1.8 million SNAP participants are children. And for MAGA, it is a biblical imperative that they go hungry if they are poor.
And although she claims that even the poor can eat well, you just know that this sorry excuse for a human would consider a meal consisting of a drumstick, a broccoli floret, a tortilla and some beans as beneath her dignity and station, even as she pounds down her ribeye with potatoes au gratin, sautéd wild mushrooms and asparagus with hollandaise.
But then, don’t forget, MAGA shut down USAID for tens of millions of children worldwide. Heartless SOBs just left them to starve. And that’s MAGA for you.
They all have to go, every last one of them.
